Ford & Stanley Interim – The Rail Recruitment Experts are seeking several skilled Train Assemblers to join CAF Rolling Stock at their Newport facility focusing on their Wales and borders project.

The Opportunity

You will be working on behalf of CAF Rolling Stock at their state-of-the-art facility in Newport, Wales assembling brand new Trains for Transport for Wales. We require both Electrical and Mechanically biased individuals with a background in heavy Engineering, ideally Rail, Aerospace or Automotive.

6 months initially- these roles will be inside IR35

Key Role and Responsibilities

  • The Assembly Operative is a member of a team responsible for carrying out various assembly procedures, including fitting components across Mechanical and Electrical tasks within a Production environment to achieve the fully built vehicle.
  • Follows specifications and other appropriate instructions and/or procedures to accurately assemble components on a train using a variety of tools and equipment. This will include, but is not limited to, mechanical assembly, electrical assembly, and fitting safety critical parts.
  • Support quality, productivity, and process improvement initiatives
  • Carry out lean production activities.
  • Record and report faults to relevant areas of production.
  • Perform work quality checks to ensure product meets quality and safety standards.
  • Maintain all equipment according to maintenance plans and procedures.
  • Carry out problem solving and troubleshooting techniques as part of a team responsible for realising continuous improvement to products and processes.
  • Undertake training relevant to the role and across teams to provide resource/skills and supports/ works in other areas as may be necessary.
  • Train and act as a mentor to others on process and job role requirements.
  • Ensure all records (manual and digital) are completed correctly and on time.
  • Carry out routine daily maintenance and safety checks.
  • Pro-actively seek out process improvements and efficiency savings, recommending to line manager where improvements can be made, or costs reduced.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, with a willingness to learn and the ability to adapt quickly to new surroundings. You will have a background in heavy engineering and have either a Mechanical or Electrical skillset, ideally with a qualification in Engineering.

  • Manually dexterous, with mechanical/electrical quality aptitude
  • High attention to detail and able to perform repetitive tasks well
  • Able to use a variety of machines and hand tools
  • Able to work autonomously as well as part of a team
  • Able to respond and adapt to changing circumstances, and stay focused and motivated in a pressured environment
  • Able to take a proactive approach to manage and provide solutions to problems in a climate of continuous improvement
  • Knowledge and experience of promoting safe working practices in a safety critical workplace
  • Able to maintain accurate records
  • Strong track record of delivering targets and projects on time

Desirables

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in related field
  • IOSH qualification or equivalent Health & Safety qualification
  • Current First Aid at Work qualification
