Rail Mechanical Fitter – Team Leader

£23,000 – £26,500 per annum

Ford & Stanley – The Rail Recruitment Experts have the pleasure of supporting one of their prominent freight client who supply customers with a lifetime package of freight support from design through to build and maintenance.



Key responsibilities

  • Daily deployment of labour to meet current work loads
  • Monitor fleet availability targets and actual availability against contract requirements via the Fleet management team.
  • Ensure that monthly maintenance targets and plans are met and report on performance against these targets.
  • Report on any deviation from monthly/weekly maintenance plans and targets.
  • Conduct contract and maintenance specification reviews with subordinates.
  • Develop a succession management plan.
  • Provide meaningful monthly management reports.
  • Monitor and manage team/area sickness and holiday levels to maintain depot function.
  • Ensure that company disciplinary procedures are followed in full.
  • Conduct regular site visits and audit documentation, assets, plant and equipment.
  • Ensure that accident, incidents and near miss reports are filed as appropriate and that the company safety Manager receives copies of these reports.
  • Manage annual leave so as to reduce impact upon maintenance requirements and targets.
  • Ensure that adequate materials are on hand to enable completion of workload.
  • Ensure accuracy of stock reporting and develop systems to improve.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in a safe manner
  • Achieve and manage budget overhead costs.
  • Put in place effective controls to manage overtime.
  • Ensure compliance with Engineering standards, specifications and instructions.
  • Develop and maintain a site cleaning regime.
  • Ensure that appropriate and adequate safety equipment is made available and audited regularly.
  • Ensure that all calibrated equipment is kept in date with records of calibration due dates for each item.
  • Conduct toolbox talks where appropriate and keep records.
  • Complete and record regular quality/product audits.
  • Ensure compliance with standards of the storage of materials and equipment.
  • Develop, undertake and record regular team meeting performance reviews. Topics for discussion should include but are not exclusive to the following: Safety issues, maintenance performance against targets, quality audits, site overhead costs, test and share team knowledge of products and procedures.

  • Previous Team Leader / Supervisory experience
  • Must be from a Rail/Rolling Stock Background
